Landscape & open space
The vision for the New Village is a landscape-led scheme which provides a range of public open green spaces to the East and West of the site for the community to relax in and enjoy. The key initial concepts include:
- A sense of ‘ruralness’ and countryside in the development, backed up by recreational areas to the west of the site to provide a green buffer to the adjoining countryside
- Strong local connections to the wider network of public rights of way, including footpaths and nature trails
- Natural play opportunities – extending these opportunities beyond the main designated areas, by providing high quality landscaping and using natural elements as children’s play areas
- Using sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) to provide ecological benefits via attenuation ponds which can also be attractive areas for residents to explore
- Retaining existing hedgerows and trees to break up the mass of built development and creating nature habitats. This will enhance biodiversity and integrate the development with the countryside
