Access & highways
We know that a key consideration from the local community is always highways and ensuring a new development does not cause a significant negative impact on local roads.
We are dedicated to ensuring that the new village is accessible via all modes of transport, with a focus on encouraging sustainable travel by bus, cycle or walking to promote healthy communities. We also want to ensure the key areas of the village, including the village square and open green spaces, are easily accessible by residents.
Key highways proposals
- Vehicular access to the site will be via the upgraded Clifton Moor Roundabout which will be delivered as part of City of York Council’s future dualling works to the A1237/Ring Road. A further access will also be provided via Wigginton Road
- A detailed transport assessment will be submitted with the planning application which review the impact of development traffic at peak times
- Our initial modelling data and investigations indicate that the development can be satisfactorily accommodated on the local road network.
- We will work with City of York Council and National Highways as plans progress
How will you assess highways and traffic impact?
The proposals will include a detailed transport assessment which will assess the impacts of the development traffic at peak times and throughout the day, and set out how we will provide sustainable travel opportunities for future residents. The assessment will also review key junctions nearby, namely the Clifton Moor Roundabout and the proposed access onto Wigginton Road. These documents will be submitted as part of the planning application and City of York Council’s highways department will review and make a recommendation.
Sustainable travel proposals
- A new bus link will be provided through the development to promote sustainable travel and less reliance on private vehicles. The bus route would travel through the development providing convenient access to all dwellings and opportunities to travel to Clifton Moor and the city centre.
- Cycle routes throughout the site – including through the centre of the site and West to East.
- Pedestrian links and footpaths throughout, linking the village centre with Clifton Moor. A combined pedestrian/cycle underpass across A1237 Ring Road linking to Clifton Moor is planned as part of the works.
